Get our volunteers ready for Holiday Distribution Day: the right people in the right places, trained and safe.

Client scenario

Welcome to the volunteer office. You've just joined Harvest Table Food Bank (fictional) as volunteer program coordinators. Our Holiday Distribution Day gives food boxes to 400 families, and it only works if about 60 volunteers know exactly where to be, what to do and how to stay safe.

Client: The Volunteer Manager (the teacher in role).

Volunteers have signed up, but there's no plan: no role descriptions, no schedule, no training and no check-in system.

Roles

  • Program Coordinator
  • Scheduler
  • Training Lead
  • Communications Writer
  • Quality Lead

The twist: The week before the event, the manager hands over the Sign-up Update (H3): 24 of the 60 volunteers have cancelled (a school trip and a flu wave). 36 are left.

Standards mapped

Mapped means the framework is verified and the teacher confirms the evidence. It isn't a claim that a project meets a standard.

  • NACE (Dec 2025)
  • ED Employability Skills Framework
  • CA Standards for Career Ready Practice
  • CCSS ELA

Not tagged in this brief: NGSS SEP, CCSS Math, ISTE Students.

Safety, devices and privacy

  • This is planning work only. Students design the kit; they don't run a real event, contact real volunteers or recruit anyone.
  • The roster is fictional and uses ID numbers only. The check-in form collects a volunteer ID, shift and role, never names, phone numbers, emails, addresses or birthdays.
  • The recruitment message is a draft only. It's written on paper or in a document, marked DRAFT, NOT FOR SENDING, and never sent, posted or shared outside the classroom.
  • The orientation briefing is practiced in class and is not filmed or recorded.
  • School devices only. No phones, and no personal accounts. Documents are made in an offline tool or a school-managed account, or by hand.
  • No photos of students. No student names or personal information on any deliverable. Sign work "Team [#]".
  • Low-cost, school-realistic materials only. Follow the school's usual classroom rules.

Creative Dad On the Job is in-class client project work. It is not a paid, off-campus On-the-Job Training (OJT) placement.
