Turn our empty 20 × 24 ft storage room into a teen study and maker space that is safe, welcoming and usable by every teen, within a $6,000 furniture budget.
Client scenario
Welcome to the design studio. The Maple Street Branch Library (fictional) has an empty 20 × 24 ft storage room next to its young adult section. Teens have been asking for a place to study and make things after school. The branch manager has hired your studio to design the room: a layout, the furniture and finishes, and a model she can show the library board.
Client: The Branch Manager (the teacher in role), who reports to the library board.
An empty storage room needs to become a safe, accessible teen study and maker space for at least 16 teens, within $6,000.

The twist: Part 1, Change Memo (H3): after approving the concept, the manager asks for a quiet study zone for 6 teens, and the board cuts the budget by 20%, from $6,000 to $4,800. Part 2, Reviewer Note: a reviewer checks the plan and flags that the layout blocks the clear path to the exit door.

Safety, devices and privacy
Models and drawings only. Nothing is built. Students don't move, assemble or install furniture, hang panels or paint. In the scenario, library facilities staff and the vendor do that.
Scissors only for cutting. Students cut card stock with scissors and join it with glue sticks. No craft knives or other blades for students, and no hot glue. Any other cut is done by an adult.
No electrical work. The plan uses the room's existing outlets only: no new wiring and no extension cords across walkways.
Measuring is optional. A team may measure a corner of the classroom as a stand-in, with a tape measure on the floor only: no climbing, no ladders and no moving furniture.
School devices only. No phones, and no personal accounts.
No photos of students. No student names or personal information on any deliverable. Sign work "Team [#]". Photos of the finished model, if any, show the model only, taken on a school device by the teacher.
Follow the school's usual classroom rules.
