Turn three months of sales data into a one-page report the board can read in two minutes.

Client scenario

Welcome to the analytics team. You've just been hired as data analysts by Second Chapter Thrift (fictional), a nonprofit thrift store that sells donated clothing, books and housewares and uses the money to fund a job-training program. The store's board meets next week, and it wants a clear monthly report.

Client: The Store Manager (the teacher in role). The manager presents our report to the board.

The store has three months of sales data in a messy spreadsheet and no clear picture of what's selling.

Roles

  • Lead Analyst
  • Data Cleaner
  • Chart Designer
  • Report Writer
  • Quality Lead

The twist: The manager hands over the Manager's Request (H3): the board chair wants to see average sale per customer, compared month to month, in tomorrow's report.

Standards mapped

Mapped means the framework is verified and the teacher confirms the evidence. It isn't a claim that a project meets a standard.

  • NACE (Dec 2025)
  • ED Employability Skills Framework
  • CA Standards for Career Ready Practice
  • CCSS ELA
  • CCSS Math

Not tagged in this brief: NGSS SEP, ISTE Students.

Safety, devices and privacy

  • School devices only. No phones, and no personal accounts. Spreadsheets are made in an offline tool or a school-managed account.
  • The dataset is fictional and has no personal information. There are no customer names, cards or contact details, and students never add any.
  • Nothing leaves the classroom. The "board" is the teacher (and, if you like, another team). Reports are not emailed or posted anywhere.
  • No photos of students. Reports, logs and the Evidence Sheet carry no student names or personal information. Sign work "Team [#]".
  • Low-cost, school-realistic materials only. Follow the school's usual classroom rules.

Creative Dad On the Job is in-class client project work. It is not a paid, off-campus On-the-Job Training (OJT) placement.
