Delivery Route Dispatch Office

Logistics & TransportationLevel 2 · 10–12 hrs8 sessions · 75–90 minutesTeam 4–6 (5 is ideal; see roles)Project brief, draft

Give us 4 balanced delivery routes, clear driver instructions and a plan for when things go wrong.

Client scenario

Welcome to dispatch. You've just joined the dispatch office at Hometown Hot Meals (fictional), a nonprofit that delivers hot lunches to 24 older adults across the town of Millbrook every weekday. Four volunteer drivers leave the kitchen at 10:30, and every meal has to arrive hot.

Client: The Operations Manager (the teacher in role).

The current routes grew by accident: one driver finishes at 11:30 and another at 1:15, with cold meals. The manager wants balanced, written routes and a plan for bad days.

Roles

  • Dispatch Lead
  • Route Planners
  • Scheduler
  • Driver Communications Writer
  • Quality Lead

The twist: It's delivery morning. The manager hands over the Delivery Morning Alert (H3): Oak Bridge is closed for an emergency repair, and Driver D has cancelled. Routes still leave at 10:30.

Standards mapped

Mapped means the framework is verified and the teacher confirms the evidence. It isn't a claim that a project meets a standard.

Safety, devices and privacy

  • Everything happens on the printed map. The town, stops and drivers are fictional. No real addresses, and no real mapping, routing or navigation apps.
  • The simulation never touches a real system. Routes and instructions go to the teacher, never to a real driver or organization.
  • School devices only. No phones, and no personal accounts. Spreadsheets are made in an offline tool or a school-managed account.
  • No personal information. Delivery clients are "Stop 1" to "Stop 24"; their meal labels and notes are made up and contain no names or health details beyond a meal label.
  • No photos of students. No student names on routes, schedules or instruction sheets. Sign work "Team [#]".
  • Scissors for cutting string are classroom scissors only.

Creative Dad On the Job is in-class client project work. It is not a paid, off-campus On-the-Job Training (OJT) placement.
