Market-Stall Launch Consultancy

Business & EntrepreneurshipLevel 2 · 10–12 hrs8 sessions · 75–90 minutesTeam 4–6 (5 is ideal; see roles)Project brief, draft

Help me launch a Saturday market stall: tell me what each product costs, what to charge, how many I need to sell to get my money back, what to aim for in my first 4 weeks, how to set up the stall, and what you recommend I sell.

Client scenario

Welcome to Market Street Consulting. You've just joined a small consulting team that helps local businesses get started. Your newest client is Jo Marsh, owner of Maple Lane Bakes (fictional), a home baker who wants to open a stall at the Riverside Saturday Market (fictional).

Client: Jo Marsh, owner of Maple Lane Bakes (the teacher in role). She pays for our advice and makes the final decision.

Jo has $400 to start, three product ideas and a stall booked. She doesn't know what to charge, what to sell, or how long it will take to earn her money back.

Roles

  • Engagement Lead
  • Finance Analyst
  • Market Researcher
  • Marketing Designer
  • Quality Lead

The twist: Jo forwards a Supplier Notice (H3): her main ingredient supplier is raising all ingredient prices by 20%, starting with her first market week. Packaging prices don't change. A second supplier is available, but with conditions.

Standards mapped

Mapped means the framework is verified and the teacher confirms the evidence. It isn't a claim that a project meets a standard.

  • NACE (Dec 2025)
  • ED Employability Skills Framework
  • CA Standards for Career Ready Practice
  • CCSS ELA
  • CCSS Math

Safety, devices and privacy

  • School devices only. No phones (not even as calculators), and no personal accounts. Spreadsheets run in an offline tool or a school-managed account.
  • No real money and no real purchases. All prices, suppliers and sales figures are fictional and come from the teacher's sheets.
  • Students never contact real bakers, markets or suppliers. The client is the teacher in role.
  • No student photos or personal information on the flyer, the sign or any deliverable. Sign work "Team [#]". The flyer uses drawings, shapes and text only.
  • No baking or food handling in class. This is a planning project.
  • Low-cost, school-realistic materials only. Follow the school's usual classroom rules.

Creative Dad On the Job is in-class client project work. It is not a paid, off-campus On-the-Job Training (OJT) placement.
