Record April's 30 documents, check them against the bank and tell me how the month went.

Client scenario

Welcome to the bookkeeping desk. Paper Lantern Print Shop (fictional) prints flyers, banners, invitations and business cards for its neighborhood. The owner is great at printing and less great at paperwork. She has handed you a month of it: 30 receipts, invoices and deposit slips from April, and the shop's April bank statement.

Client: The Owner (the teacher in role).

The owner needs to know where April's money went, whether her records match the bank, and how the month really went.

Roles

  • Lead Bookkeeper
  • Entry Clerks
  • Reconciliation Clerk
  • Report Preparer
  • Quality Lead

The twist: While reconciling, teams find two statement lines that aren't in the ledger: a second $412.60 payment to Northwind Paper Co. for invoice #1182 (already paid by check #1042) and a $48.00 card charge at Brightway Supply with no receipt. The owner hands over the Owner's Note (H3): she wants both documented and resolved before the month closes.

Standards mapped

Mapped means the framework is verified and the teacher confirms the evidence. It isn't a claim that a project meets a standard.

  • NACE (Dec 2025)
  • ED Employability Skills Framework
  • CA Standards for Career Ready Practice
  • CCSS ELA

Safety, devices and privacy

  • Made-up numbers only. Every document and the bank statement are fictional. Students never use, open or log in to a real bank, card, payment app or accounting account, their own or anyone else's.
  • The refund request is a draft. It is marked DRAFT, NOT FOR SENDING and goes to the teacher, never to a real address.
  • No advice. The note to the owner describes what the books show. It doesn't tell anyone what to do with real money and gives no tax, legal or investment advice.
  • School devices only. No phones, including as calculators, and no personal accounts.
  • No photos of students. No student names or personal information on any deliverable. Sign work "Team [#]".
  • Follow the school's usual classroom rules.

Creative Dad On the Job is in-class client project work. It is not a paid, off-campus On-the-Job Training (OJT) placement.
